Evan Ward concentrates his practice on environmental litigation and regulatory counseling, representing industrial and commercial clients before federal and state trial and appellate courts and administrative agencies. Evan advises clients on permit requirements under the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, represents clients challenging federal and state permitting decisions, and counsels companies undertaking environmental remediation projects. His practice also includes regulatory takings litigation, where he advocates for property owners facing government restrictions.
Evan also has substantial appellate litigation experience, grounded in his clerkship for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He has briefed critical matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits, and appellate courts in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, and New York. Drawing on his background in high-stakes appeals, Evan frequently advises clients on complex legal strategy, with an emphasis on preserving and positioning legal issues for appeal. His appellate work spans a range of subject matters, including environmental litigation and regulatory challenges.
Before joining KMCL Law, Evan practiced as an associate in the general litigation, appellate, and environmental practice groups at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP in Birmingham, Alabama. Evan previously clerked for Judge Andrew Brasher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Before his clerkship, Evan practiced environmental law and general litigation as an associate at Jones Day in Washington, D.C. He received his J.D. from University of Virginia, where he served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Environmental Law Journal and symposium editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. Evan received his M.A. in American history and B.A. (summa cum laude) in history from University of Alabama.
Evan attended the University of Virginia School of Law on the Hardy Cross Dillard full-tuition scholarship. In law school, he received the Bracewell Award for Oral Advocacy.
