Jim Thompson advises clients on environmental regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters, with experience spanning a range of state and federal statutes, including RCRA, CERCLA, and OSHA, as well as related state common law claims.
Jim works with clients to navigate overlapping regulatory regimes, offering practical, business-focused solutions to complex compliance challenges. His practice includes counseling clients through government investigations and enforcement matters, guiding responses to agency inquiries and managing regulator engagement to achieve efficient and favorable outcomes.
Before joining KMCL, Jim practiced at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP in Washington, D.C., and a leading mid-sized firm in Atlanta, where he was part of nationally recognized litigation teams. His experience includes high-stakes government investigations, complex commercial disputes, and civil rights litigation. This diverse foundation gives him a well-rounded perspective on clients’ legal and business needs, allowing him to develop clear, actionable strategies aligned with their operational goals.
Jim earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. He earned his B.S. summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
